Why Did I create this conference?

After attending 5 mainstream herbalism programs in America, not one program taught me where the herbs came from, how our ancestors used the herbs, and the sacred practices & traditions surrounding herbal medicine. They also never mentioned that most of these herbs come from native & indigenous lands.

I decided to travel the world to these indigenous countries and learn what these herbalism schools & books left out. Not everyone can afford to travel the world like me, nor have the luxury, and I realized this was not a practical way for anyone to learn indigenous herbal medicine.

After being asked to speak at countless herbalism conferences & international herbalism festivals and noticing I was among the few people of color, I knew one thing: Something had to change.

This led me to create the BIPOC Herbalism Conference. My goal is to assist in decolonizing herbalism, provide more opportunities for herbalists of color, and share knowledge from ancient indigenous cultures with the world.
